Black August Summer Institute – Mexico
🌎 A Once-in-a-Lifetime Learning Experience
This summer, Columbia Community Care (CCC) is sending a group of middle and high school boys to the Black August Summer Institute—a life-changing educational and cultural immersion program in Baja, Mexico.
These are all young black students from Howard County, Maryland. They’ve been actively involved in CCC’s youth mentorship programs, showing up with curiosity, courage, and leadership potential. Most have never left the state—let alone the country.
This is more than a trip. It’s a transformation. ✈️ 📖
The Black August Summer Institute is not a vacation. It’s a powerful, immersive experience where students will:
- Explore identity, liberation, and leadership in an Afro-diasporic context
- Participate in workshops, reflection, and community-building
- Connect with mentors and peers from across the country
- Gain new confidence and a broader sense of what’s possible for their lives
